Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) help create community in the workplace, and can serve as a source of strength for employees of marginalized identities. This panel explores the value of intersectionality at work, and how ERGs can serve as a catalyst for professional growth. The marketing communications industry has historically lagged behind other business verticals in its inclusion of marginalized people, in their workforce, and when we speak of marginalization, we include, but don’t limit ourselves to, BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, people with disabilities, and people facing age discrimination.
Despite the ongoing studies highlighting these and other inequities, and the pledges made by C-suite leaders to rectify these issues, inequities in diversity, equity & inclusion persist. These problems are not exclusive to the marketing communications industry – these inequities are prevalent across all adjacent business categories, including, but not limited to, the entertainment industry, art, music, fashion, and tech.
